Diane Michalec MSN, BSN, RN is the Director of Interoperability at UPMC. Diane leads a team of analysts whose goals include integration using HL7, aggregation of electronic data into UPMC’s interoperability platform, connecting UPMC with regional and national Health Information Exchanges, presentation of clinical data to support the patient during transitions of care, and development of integrated process orchestration to enable the transparent influx of clinical IT into clinical workflow.
Diane has worked in both clinical and IT roles. Diane served the first half of her career in neurosurgery and later in Trauma ICU. She transitioned into the technical arena and served in many roles, including Systems Analyst and Informatics Nurse. During this time Diane coordinated clinical activities associated with the development, education, implementation, and ongoing utilization and evaluation of a Critical Care Information System and technical activities associated with programming of clinical displays, report writing, and data quality efforts.
