Richard Staynings is a globally renowned thought leader, author, public speaker and advocate for improved cybersecurity across the Healthcare and Life Sciences industry. Last year he served on the Committee of Inquiry into the SingHealth breach as an Expert Witness and is known throughout Asia for his leadership in healthcare cybersecurity.
Richard serves on the International HIMSS Privacy and Cybersecurity Committee as well as the board of AEHIS – (the Association for Executives in Healthcare Information Security), and is active with both CHIME and AEHIA, where he has assisted hundreds of health systems globally in their cybersecurity risk management transformation efforts. A former CIO, CISO and CTO, Richard currently leads healthcare security strategy at Cylera – an innovative biomedical HIoT security startup. However, he is probably best known in AsiaPac as Cisco’s former Global Cybersecurity Leader for Healthcare Life Sciences.
With more than 25 years’ experience of both cybersecurity leadership and client consulting in healthcare, Richard has lived in over 30 countries and helped deliver innovative solutions to organizations in all of them. Some of his global successes include work for: Amgen, Cisco, CSC, PwC, Intel, Microsoft, and Zurich Financial, to name a few. He has also led security transformation programs at Intermountain Healthcare, Childrens’ National, and Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia, PeaceHealth and others.
After spending many years based out of the UK, Australia and various parts of Asia including a number of years in Hong Kong, Richard now resides in the shadows of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, USA. When he’s not flying between clients and conferences, Richard enjoys most things between mountaineering and scuba diving. Although he doesn’t get to spend a lot of time at home, Richard is active in his local community and serves on several local boards in a pro-bono capacity.
